Lessons Learned from Taryn Jerez’s Journey as a Creative Business Coach

This week’s episode: Apple Podcasts

In our latest episode of The Business Reboot Podcast, we had the pleasure of interviewing Taryn Jerez, a creative business coach and industry speaker from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Taryn shared her experiences and insights on the importance of authenticity, vulnerability, and embracing imperfection in entrepreneurship. As hosts of the podcast and entrepreneurs ourselves, we found Taryn’s story and advice resonating deeply and it was valuable for anyone seeking to build a successful and fulfilling business.

The Power of Authenticity

One of the key takeaways from our conversation with Taryn was the transformative power of authenticity in business. Taryn shared how a pivotal moment of questioning her authenticity and comfort zone led her to rebrand her business and align her messaging with her true identity. Although initially challenging, this shift ultimately led to greater success and fulfillment in her work.

As entrepreneurs, it can be tempting to conform to industry trends or present a perfect image to the world. However, Taryn’s experience demonstrates the importance of staying true to ourselves and our values. By embracing our unique strengths, experiences, and even our vulnerabilities, we can attract the right clients and build genuine connections with our audience. You will call in the right people who just ”get you”…we have found that to be so true! We are truly people who have huge senses of humor, love people in big ways (and are often loud about it…ahahaha), and are loyal to our community and our word. Embrace what makes you different…and others will too.

Learning from Failure

Another important theme that emerged from our discussion was the value of learning from failure. We all shared examples of business retreats or initiatives that did not go as planned, forcing us to adapt and find new ways to serve our clients. These experiences, while difficult at the time, ultimately provided valuable lessons and opportunities for growth.

As coaches and entrepreneurs, it’s crucial to be honest and vulnerable about our own failures and use them as teachable moments to help others. By unpacking and reflecting on our successes and failures alike, we can gain deeper insights into our businesses and ourselves, and use that knowledge to continuously improve and evolve.

Pricing and Perceived Value

Taryn also shared a powerful story about the impact of pricing on perceived value and business success. By incrementally increasing her prices and aligning her compensation with the true value of her work, she was able to attract high-quality clients who appreciated and valued her expertise.

This story resonated with us as entrepreneurs who have also struggled with undercharging and undervaluing our work in the beginning. It’s a common challenge, particularly for women entrepreneurs, to overcome the fear of charging what we’re worth. However, as Taryn’s experience shows, when we dare to price our services appropriately, we can attract clients who truly value our time and expertise, leading to greater financial and personal fulfillment.

Embracing Imperfection

Perhaps the most important lesson we took away from our conversation with Taryn was the importance of embracing imperfection in entrepreneurship. As women entrepreneurs, we often face intense pressure to be perfect in all aspects of our lives and businesses. However, this pursuit of perfection can hold us back from taking action and seizing opportunities.

Taryn encouraged us to show up as the person we want to be, even if we don’t feel 100% worthy or ready. By choosing to lead with what we want to be known for and controlling our narrative, we can overcome fear and self-doubt and make progress toward our goals. As the saying goes, “Done is better than perfect.”

Our interview with Taryn Jerez was a powerful reminder of the importance of authenticity, vulnerability, and embracing imperfection in entrepreneurship. By staying true to ourselves, learning from our failures, charging what we’re worth, and taking imperfect action, we can build successful businesses that align with our values and make a positive impact in the world. As hosts of The Business Reboot Podcast, we are grateful for the opportunity to share these valuable insights with our listeners and continue the conversation about what it takes to thrive as entrepreneurs.
